We tried

My chocolate smeared little sweetie. With non-matching clothes because dad dressed him. :)
We tried getting a photo of me and the boys. Didn't work. Mostly because their dad got them ready to leave the house, then tried the photo. No surprise to me, we had no cooperation. So we left.
This is my first attempt at homemade cereal bars. We have oodles and oodles of cereal, and I'm NOT a cereal eater. Neither is Lincoln... anymore. He and the boys eat granola bars all the time, so I thought I'd try making a granola/cereal bar concoction. Now I must tell you, the chocolate smudges are there because Lincoln insisted on having chocolate chips added. I explained this is what would happen... I knew they'd melt. M&M's would have been a better choice to add. But he kept saying, "just try it." (Rolling my eyes- which by the way Aidan does now. I created a monster.) So they look pretty odd, but by golly, they taste good! Now that I know I have a good base recipe, I'll try different combos. I'm shocked by my own homemakerness.

If you want to give it a try:
6 cups Life cereal
2 cups Kix cereal
2 1/2 cups granola
1 cup M&M's (that's what it should have been)
1 cup light Karo syrup
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick of butter
1 tsp vanilla

*You can use whatever combo of cereal you desire, just keep the flavors and nutrition in mind. You can even put pretzels, peanuts, popcorn, whatever in there. I would have used more granola, but it was the Life cereal I was trying to use up.*

In large bowl, combine cereals, set aside. In large saucepan, bring remaining ingredients except vanilla, to a boil over med-hi heat, lower to med and boil for 3 mins, stirring constantly. Take off the heat, stir in vanilla. Then add your cereal, mixing really well. (The life cereal will break up. Other cereals probably won't, so keep that in mind. For instance, you may or may not want to break a cereal up beforehand.) Lightly smash into a 13x9x2 pan or container. (Greased if not plastic or nonstick.) Let cool. Cut into bars.
*If you are in a real hurry, throw it in the freezer to set.*
