I wish I'd gotten a photo of Aidan riding in the cab with Daddy. Lincoln said we could get one the second time he put Aidan in, but Aidan fell asleep and didn't get in a second ride. :( It was a bit of a crackup because he was so in survival mode that when Lincoln honked the horn, Aidan still had a deadpan look on his face, with no reaction whatsoever. Poor little dude. He later said he had fun, though. I suspect much of his life will include times like that... doing things in spite of the horror going on inside, just to simply do it.
After looking the back entrance situation over, Lincoln realized it would be down right dangerous during the winter, because of the drop-off from the cemented rocks down to the gravel. So he borrowed George Byram's backhoe and leveled things out. I put the boys up in the window to watch. Seeing a huge backhoe, Aidan said, "Daddy's building another house." (There is an empty lot right next to us.) I explained that he was only leveling the gravel out to make it safer for us. So he watched as Lincoln learned (a little by trial and error) how to use the controls. Then he announced, "Daddy doesn't know how to build another house." (Belly laugh!) In the end, Daddy did a great job on what he'd set out to do. :) But a preschoolers abrupt observations can be pretty funny.
