Holy moly, Aidan's 5... in a few days

Since I have a test I must be sedated for on Aidan's birthday, we celebrated today. It was very last minute, so not organized at all. To explain the cake: it's "paint splattered" Thomas. I ran out of the blue and had to come up with something! Now it wouldn't be a cake from me (since I learned you can do this) if it didn't have bean puree in place of the butter/oil. You totally can't tell.

To explain the pocket watch: Aidan needs to wear a medical alert. I'd ordered a wristband for him, the only thing I could come up with for a wrist as small as his, that wasn't too girly. He wore it for about 10mins and then took it off and refused to ever wear it again. It has become clear he needs to be wearing it. Billie Jo actually gave me the idea of a key chain... which I then realized a pocket watch on a strap would work. I don't know if you can see it really well on the video, but I worked really hard on it and he loves it. I need to shorten it a bit, but all that requires is a different hook at the top that can be purchased at walmart and easily switched.

This birthday is bittersweet. As I watch Aidan fade away again, because we are still waiting on the dumb testing to get scheduled (I've turned into major pushy mom again, though, so hopefully that will help) and he literally is getting visibly worse everyday. Yet, I'm so grateful we still have our sweet, perfect, warm angel Aidan with us. I woke from a nightmare, again, this morning about that changing... so it's definitely right on the surface for me... no subconscious here.

A little while after he settled down from lots of play with the tent, he said, "Daddy, I'd like another gift, please." How cute is he?! So polite, even as asking for more.
