I actually cooked turkey again this year.
Usually we have something different, mostly because I'm not a big turkey fan. But I do like mashed potatoes and gravy. Normally I don't attempt gravy unless it's at least 1/2 already made. :) This year, I made my own from scratch. Crockpot turkey (recipe from A Year of Slow Cooking blog,) mashed potatoes and gravy (from food storage, and yes it was good,) sage sausage stuffing (recipe from Buns in My Oven blog,) and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.
No pie you say? I'm REALLY not a pie fan. In fact it completely grosses me out, unless it's a fresh strawberry pie, which obviously isn't a November sort of thing. The boys feel the same way, so frankly, Daddy is outnumbered big time.
I was picking things that would work best for the boys, and as it turned out, it worked.
Aidan helped me with most of it, which was fun.
And he actually ate it all too! Jace ate once it was stone cold. (He does that all the time now, and I seriously don't get it.) Damon actually ate the mashed potatoes and gravy and pumpkin cookies without puking!
Next year I think I will make cheesecake.:)
As for things I am grateful for this year:
I am so very grateful Aidan is still here with us and that he can do things like help fix Thanksgiving dinner with me again, for now! I'm so very grateful Jacen can walk without falling constantly and that he can talk now! I'm so grateful Damon is getting closer to eating normal food and even close to walking! I'm thankful for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, because without Them, there would be no purpose, no comfort. I'm thankful for people like my parents and the boys' therapists and sweet friends that bless our lives everyday with their sacrifices. And though terribly simple, I'm grateful we have a roof over our heads and food to not go hungry.
