With any form of Epilepsy, a psychological evaluation must be done annually for insurance purposes. Aidan's first eval was when he was 4yrs old. He was not on any medication and his diagnosis was still very incomplete. The first evaluation ruled out straight up Autism, but there was still the question of PDD-NOS (which I was told is not autism by some doctors, others said it is.) This time they were able to test more, because Aidan was more cooperative. I don't have the full written up evaluation yet, but was given the report verbally in an appt earlier today.
Homeschooling is "obviously the perfect fit for Aidan." He is learning the skills he needs and is now doing really well in Phonics/Spelling. Wow, I did the right thing in dropping the school curriculum and using other resources. There is still a question regarding the PDD-NOS, because with uncontrolled seizures, you can't tell if it's the seizures causing it, or actually PDD-NOS. Again, the testing results were very inconsistent from one question to the next. Just like everything else. Aidan can be so on one minute and so off the next. Because every seizure interrupts all thought and requires a sort of reboot. His biggest challenge by far is his communication/speech. The information is there, he totally understands and has the answer. But can't explain or elaborate. His brain is not sending the correct signals to his mouth fast enough... He has significant motor problems.
So his report validates everything I already knew.
Thanks for the doctor's signature. ;)
