Jacen's CDC eval was done yesterday. This is a full evaluation of development done through the state and federal government (state does it, federal government provides eval guidelines) for any child under the age of 3. I had no idea they had such services. Anyway, this screening determines if Jacen qualifies for similar services Aidan is receiving, but done only in a preschool like setting... no one on one therapy like Aidan receives. Jace scored normal or above on everything but speech/language and gross motor skills (only with walking and running.) No surprises there, that's why I asked for the referrals in the first place.

What was shocking, and as it sunk in for me, became very disturbing:
Part of the evaluation included "inter-personal relationships." Which, really, is family relationships. Aidan's evals have not included this. Jacen scored at age level 4-6yrs for this. "That is
incredible!" they said. Add that to all the constant comments about their being happy and calm and well mannered, from those evaluating and working with them. If Jacen scored that much higher than his peers, think of how severely deprived of true parent/child and sibling relationships the average child must be. They told me, "you should be really proud of that score." But I'm not doing anything more than I should be as his mother. In fact, I feel guilty, regularly, that Jace doesn't get as much special attention as Aidan did.

That is
major proof the average American family is no longer really a family.
And that is
very frightening.
