Okay so I couldn't get the video loaded and things have been so crazy I didn't actually finish that post.
The video was supposed to be for my mom, of Damon climbing up the climbing wall. It's just so darling seeing my little munchkin stretch to the climbing rocks and make his way up and then slide down with his sweet little "I'm so glad I can do this now!" look on his face.
To explain, the behaviorist actually worded it the best. He was inquiring about how we handle school and holidays. I explained that with the boys' sensory issues going on, but particularly Aidan's, we'd reducing holidays down to extremely low key if anything at all. And for school, that I knew we couldn't do regular public school so I was using public online school at home.
He smiled in approval and then went on to explain that everyone just does what's always been done, why do it any differently, because you want your child to do the same things as everyone else. But what that does is actually hurt the child needlessly. (Everyone is different, with different needs and circumstances so please don't take offense.) Particularly in the case of children with intractable epilepsy, the regular school setting causes seizure increase that has a snowball effect. He finds that parents end up having to bring their child home eventually anyway, only now their child is way behind and will not catch up. And that for holidays, many children with special needs are miserable with all the stimulation and then the whole family is miserable. Which misses the whole point of holidays. He said that if parents aren't willing to make appropriate changes for their children's individual needs the child suffers and frankly, so does the family.
For me, it was a matter of just going with the feelings I kept getting all along. And as I looked back each time, I knew I'd done right thing for our boys, regardless of how other people felt or thought about me.
As for my mother...
Oh how I wanted to go for a visit! I miss Mom something awful.
She is just the sweetest most charitable person I know and I hate being far from her.

Making faces.
Oh my gosh this little man is blasted cute.
I had to get a close up of Aidan's train on the suspension bridge.
A whole car for stroganoff and tacos. :) I'm so glad it's not something like McDonald's or Wendy's!

We've got some big changes in the works to make things easier for Aidan.
I hope it will make this summer a little less miserable and much safer for our precious dude.
I'll post some pics when we have some of it done.
